- 05Services — Mere Abrams, LCSWI have over five years of experience working with trans/transgender, nonbinary, agender, and gender-expansive children, teens, and adults (as well as those who love them), in medical, educational, non-profit and therapeutic settings. I provide my clients with a safe, supportive space to process their feelings and ask questions about gender. My services help children, teens, and adults to better understand gender identity, as well as medical and social options for transition or alignment. Through our work together, clients come away with new information, tools, and strategies to navigate systems, places, and relationships that may be unfamiliar with ideas about gender diversity and inclusion. I also provide gender dysphoria assessments for those seeking letters of support. In an initial meeting, we will discuss which method(s) (consultation, counseling and/or advocacy) are best suited to address your concerns and interests.
- 06Welcome — Mere Abrams, LCSWComing to understand and know one's gender is a natural and healthy part of each person's development. This approach is a central part of my practice. I recognize that being transgender/trans, nonbinary, agender or gender expansive is not a mental illness and many people seeking support related to gender are not interested in traditional therapy. I aim to provide services that are tailored to the client's goals and interests. I recognize that trans people have been historically and inappropriately treated as mentally ill, and am careful not to presume there is a history or presence of mental health issues. I understand the struggles many transgender/trans, nonbinary, agender, or gender-expansive individuals face are a result of living in a community or world that is not accepting or understanding of their experience.
